ED Tech Journal LINK TO PROFESSIONAL HISTORY IN EDUCATION

My goals are centered on developing pedagogy using medical simulation frameworks based on experiential learning theory. I feel this theory is most appropriate in reaching learners at more realistic problem-based level. For example, medical simulation education occurs in healthcare and academic settings and is facilitated by simulation centers or programs. As an administrator for a simulation program, I currently am appointed to facilitate the development of a simulation instructor course. I plan to use the experiential model to navigate through the learner and instructor experience and the use of the technology rich environment. I feel this model is transferable to other academic contexts. In the near-term, this goal means creating an asynchronous or synchronous course of hybrid online and face to face study for simulation educators and operations specialists. A long-term goal is to create a comprehensive program where experiential learning framework supports primary and secondary educational contexts.

Currently, my professional duties are encompassed in the healthcare education requirements for medical education. The conditions have led me to work in healthcare installations and austere medical environments. I envision myself working in these settings until transitioning to a new simulation facility that is placed in a new hospital to occur this year. I also envision transferring to an educational agency or contributing public program and helping coordinate innovative student-based learning paradigms within the education community. I feel that I have and will develop the experience needed to engage peers and faculty in progressive learning paradigms that foster a better learner experience for the student.
I’m most familiar with educational tools like simulation and am becoming more familiar with simulation education learning spaces and data management systems, which is mostly in the area of automation. The learning management system automates workflow in physical and virtual simulation learning spaces. There are task trainers, VR and AR, computer-based simulation, human simulators, and standardized patients within the educational tools that are supported by experiential learning framework. The simulators are a fun way to engage learners but are only equipment if not implemented in a comprehensive framework and learning strategy. Therefore, a technology rich learning environment requires a dedicated faculty and staff to successfully meet learners needs.

I’m interested in blackboard systems and learning management systems. I feel the virtual learning spaces are essential in the current pandemic. I'm currently working with an online blackboard system. The asynchronous modality is supported by a storyboard, technician, and course developers. I’m interested in learning how to link educational components like video and synchronous portions of content into the learning space, but more so a framework that allows for measured value and assessment of the learner in an attempt to develop the program to meet the learners gap in reaching critical content. I’m interested in virtual learning spaces, learning management systems, and websites as a subtopic of virtual learning spaces as another way to facilitate our educational endeavor.
